Gov. Sebelius to speak to Texas Delegation

August 24, 2008 by admin

State delegations will meet each morning for breakfast, credential distribution, and speakers

Gov. Sebelius of Kansas will be speaking tomorrow to the Texas Delegation. She is a great speaker. I saw her Saturday night at the National Stonewall Democrats Federation dinner.

The only thing I didn't like is she yelled out "Rock Chalk Jayhawk"... not just once but twice. That's the cheer of Kansas University (what Kansas State grads call Univ. of Kansas). As a Kansas State grad I was just a little peeved! Although I did not grow up in Kansas, I have always had a special place in my heart for the state and the state paid for my fellowship.

Watching VP announcement with delegates

August 23, 2008 by admin

Watching the VP announcement at the Renaissance Hotel with members of the Mass and Maryland delegations and attendees of the National Stonewall Democrats Convention.

Late last night I was with delegates from across the country when the news started to break of Biden as VP. It was interesting to hear initial thoughts from both Obama and Clinton delegates. As a Clinton delegate, I am disappointed that Sen. Clinton is not the VP nominee yet excited to support Biden. I was impressed by Biden's speech today.
Other notes:
  • The altitude is getting to to many people I have been talking to. Or perhaps the late fun some of us had last night!

Crazy Idea While Waiting for My Text Message

August 22, 2008 by buckeyestateblog

Just when I was thinking if one more jackass on the TV tries to say something about Joe Biden or Evan Bayh that some other jackass hasn’t already said, this jackass (me) came up with the electrifying solution: Let the delegates on the floor of the Pepsi Center in Denver pick the veep.

Think back to when it wasn’t clear whether either Senator Obama or Senator Clinton would have enough delegates to be the presumptive nominee before the convention.  Everyone was talking about how cool it would be to have a real political convention again.  The drama of the unknown.  A little magic and mystery back in the process.

Well, Sen. Obama, you can still give the people what they want on this account.  Tomorrow at the old Statehouse in Illinois, look into the cameras and introduce not your choice, but your gift of democracy to the delegates of the Democratic Party — it’s up to them.

And, Senator, you also solve your PUMA problem.  What could be more “un-chosen one” like than to give your choice to the people.  Almost undoubtedly they will nominate Clinton, and your gesture of letting them pick her - rather than you making the selection — will be seen as gracious.

And, what theater!

Remember . . . This is What We’re Up Against!

So I’m traversing the “internets” in absolute disgust over the amount of sabotage (though, always shielded in the name of “speaking truth to power”) I see in some segments of the “progressive blogosphere” and the Democratic establishment.

Yes, like clockwork, that circular firing squad is right on schedule.

I had to power down for a moment as I realized just how the PUMA sites linked to the “Not black enough” sites, linked to the “McCain for President” sites.  Just the same, I took a deep breath after noticing how some of these same sites have begun to parrot each others arguments.

Amazingly, some of the most “progressive” sources (both black and white) have started championing Republican talking points on matters of authenticity, race, religion, worldview and, yes, bottom line.  For if you stay long enough, you’ll see a common motive that links many of these groups beyond party-politics . . . a bottom line obsessed with keeping Obama out of the White House.

The method to do so is by way of creating distractions through unreasonable standards and countless political litmus tests on peripheral issues.
