Great moments in GOP Thinking: Ohio losses 30,000 jobs in Ohio Alone

September 18, 2009 by buckeyestateblog

No word yet on how many jobs Ohio lost OUTSIDE of Ohio...

NEWSFLASH, OHIO GOP: There's a global recession on... and you guys ran the State for nearly two decades.  It was tough enough to clean up your mess as is, but then your Wall Street buddies had to go and collapse like a cheap pup tent and all.

Maybe with the insightful economic insight of former Lehman Bros. manager (in which both his employment and the existence of the company no longer exist)/Gubernatorial candidate John Kasich can explain to them that unemployment tends to go up after the national economy shrinks by double digits over a year.

Oh, and maybe he could also explain that its hard for a State to jobs OUTSIDE of its borders.

In other, great news in GOP Internets communikatin', Tim Russo apparently likes the new OhioGOP.com site (NSFW.)

*IS* Mike DeWine still running for Ohio Attorney General?

September 18, 2009 by buckeyestateblog

To jump off of David's post about the ORP Central Committee NOT issuing an endorsement in the race, let me proposal a hypothesis as to why besides the angst he causes the conservative base in the party:  there's a real practical concern whether DeWine is a serious candidate.

In the two months since he announced, DeWine's campaign website has not been changed since it was created to announce his candidacy.  His campaign Facebook page has had no activity since the week following his announcments.  There was no response at all from DeWine on the newstory about the ORP Central Committee non-endorsement.  I've been unable to find any published reports of DeWine speaking to local civic or Republican groups.

In other words, since his announcment, I can find no evidence that a DeWine for Attorney General campaign actually exists today or not.  Now, even if the campaign DOES exist, wouldn't the fact that DeWine's announcement (which was not exactly WELCOMED or embraced by the ORP... family relationship be damned).  I mean Voinovich, Kasich, and Portman all worked with DeWine in the Senate.  And have you seen any sign that they're extending any support to his candidacy?  None of them even issued statements, let alone appeared, at DeWine's announcement?

Doing a Vitter #8, Part One

Daily Kingfish's picture
This Eighth Part of the Doing a Vitter series is going to focus on the Sinning Senator's penchant for breaking with the values of his purported faith - Christianity.

The Sinning Senator ran in 2004 on a family values platform, replete with commercials using his children as props. Then came the revelation that he was committed a "serious sin" in breaking the Seventh Commandment of his purported religious faith - Christianity:

Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Unfortunately for the Sinning Senator, (as well as the rest of us), he just started breaking the Eighth or Ninth Commandment (depending on whether you're reading the Catholic Bible or the Catechism) to make up for not breaking the Seventh:

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

You might be wondering what neighbor of the Sinning Senator's that I'm talking about ... it is ACORN, which the Sinning Senator has decided is the biggest threat to our Republic since the British invaded Washington D.C. all the way back in 1812.

AG Endorsement Shows ORP Has Learned Nothing

September 18, 2009 by buckeyestateblog

It’s been mentioned already that I’ve had some other things to deal with recently, so it came as some surprise to hear from Joe over at Plunderbund that the Ohio Republican Party has so far refused to endorse a candidate for Attorney General.

I mean let’s look at this really, really tough decision they have before them:

Mike DeWine:

  • Former U.S. Senator.
  • Former Lt. Governor.
  • Former U.S. Representative.
  • Great name recognition.
  • Appeal to moderates and independents.

Dave Yost:

  • Delaware County Prosecutor (Do most Ohioans know where Delaware County even is?).
  • Doesn’t even have a Wikipedia entry.
  • No name recognition.
  • No hope of winning.
  • Conservative street cred.

How freakin’ hard is it? They’re so scared of upsetting the conservative fringe that they’re willing to sacrifice any chance they have of winning to appease them!

With opponents like the Ohio Republican Party, who needs friends!

[Not news]: Fisher campaign is using Quinny poll for fundraising pitch

September 16, 2009 by buckeyestateblog

Took a few hours, but Fisher campaign is now seizing on today's Quinny poll to said it has the momentum in both the primary and general election.  I guess when the next reporting deadline comes in, we'll have to see how many donations came in the next few days.  Of course, donations always peak near the ned of a reporting deadline, too, so it's still going to be hard to look at the data and determine how much the Quinny poll has effected the race.

I won't reproduce the campaign's "memo" (i.e. fundraising pitch) but point out that it makes a number of dubious claims:
