Gov. Eagle Scout (Walker) May Tilt Recall Process Towards His Own Survival

A compliant legislature is offering Scott Walker the chance to take more control of the state's recall machinery just as the process is about to be aimed squarely his way.
The move would allow Walker to halt a policy developed by nonpartisan election officials that, at least in theory, could make it easier for groups to gather signatures to recall the governor, as well as legislators from either party.

When Conservatives' Fortunes Sag, Haul Out Some Old-Fashioned Welfare Bashing

The Walker administration has hit a bad patch again, what with officials having their homes raided, computers seized, reputations immunized, and focus John Doed - - to say nothing of a recall movement heading Walker's way (what is his magic number again?) - - so what better way to flip the news and cause a distracting commotion for the entertainment of the base than a little old-fashioned, over-reacting welfare-bashing.
Some Social Development Commission board members said Monday they were surprised to learn the state has threatened to terminate part of the agency's $24.8 million Wisconsin Works contract if it doesn't correct continuing problems and complaints in providing emergency assistance to needy families...
If the plan does not satisfy the state, or if there are any more complaints, the emergency assistance portion of the grant will be terminated, said the Sept.

Great Day for the Fair!

Now that the cold snap seems to be over ...it's perfect weather to mill about Argentina's national version of a yanqui State Fair!

I just love it... as you might be able to tell. 'Course bein' an agricultural producer doesn't hurt my frame of mind at all. But the Yanq grew up less than 3 blocks from his state fairgrounds ...and for a city boy, it was a natchal born wonderment to see all the country people dolled-up in their best and to get a gander close-up at animules and weird machinery of giantesque proportions and no obvious purpose.

La Rural doesn't have any Midway ...but the food is as good if not better and has a couple of casual/fine dining opportunities that state fairs back in the old country aren't known for.

Republicans Want to Open West, Coastal Areas to Drilling; AP Coverage Misses Mark

June 19, 2008 by johne

By this point, President Bush's announcement that he wants the oil shale development moratorium repealed, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and off-shore drilling opened up for oil and gas drilling should be well known. But is it well known for the correct reasons? Is the media focused on the true aspects of this issue or are they caught up once again in ridiculous tiff reporting?

Allow me to provide a short answer to the second question: the media has reported on the "he-said, she-said" side of the issue more than the details of it. No one should be surprised. After all, the AP seems to be more worried about how much quoting of one of their articles by blogs constitutes fair-use, even though it's not in their purview to decide such things. Perhaps if they spent more time on actually reporting, bloggers wouldn't have to quote the one or two salient facts they actually managed to write down and then do the hard work of providing the context the corporate media decided wasn't sexy enough to include in the first place.

A longer answer to the questions raised above can be found below the fold.
