A bystander speaks

September 11, 2008 by JUSIPER

Near the Clinton-Obama meeting. The pair emerged briefly after lunch on the street outside Mr. Clinton’s office, where hundreds of Harlem residents had gathered, some waiting for several hours in hopes of glimpsing the two men. Among those waiting were a dozen women of West African descent who work at the Unity African Hair Braiding salon, which is next door to the State Office Building.

Trivia Tuesday - DNC and RNC

September 9, 2008 by johne

Well hi everybody and welcome back to Trivia Tuesday. Today I'm going to take you in the wayback machine all the way to the just concluded DNC and RNC.
Rules as always - no looking up your answer on the tubes and you can post your own questions below.

Good luck!

#1 - On the Tuesday night of the convention, what last name did RNC Co-chair Jo Ann Davidson accidentally use instead of Palin when announcing McCain's VP choice?

#2 - During the DNC roll call, which state yielded to Illinois, which in turned yielded to New York, ending in a call for the suspension of the vote (and election of Obama by acclamation) by Senator Clinton?

#3 - As we know, at the beginning of Senator McCain's acceptance speech, an image of Walter Reed Middle School appeared. Where is that school located? BONUS: What is the name of McCain campaign manager who admitted at parties later that night that it was a mistake?

#4 - How many delegates did Colorado send to the DNC, not including alternates?  (greenchiledem, since you were one of them, you're disqualified from answering this question :-)

#5 - How many times were veterans mentioned in McCain's acceptance speech?

#6 - Who were the Colorado officials that spoke on Thursday night of the DNC?

Hillary To Raise Half A Million Dollars For Obama At Private Manhattan Dinner

September 9, 2008 by admin

Hillary is set to do what is likely to be her only high-dollar fundraiser for Obama before the election -- an intimate dinner in Manhattan where she's planning to raise at least $500,000 for the Illinois Senator's presidential run from some of the party's wealthiest donors.

The dinner will take place on September 22nd, at the Upper East Side home of her campaign's finance chairman, Hassan Nemazee, who is one of the most prolific fundraisers in the Democratic Party.

"This is the only dinner that Hillary is doing in New York," Nemazee tells me in confirming the plans. "It's probably the only opportunity to have an intimate dinner with Senator Clinton on behalf of the Obama campaign."

Couples will pay $28,500 each to attend, and the cash will go to the Democratic National Committee's Victory fund to elect Obama.

Asked if he'd lined up enough commitments to achieve the dinner's goal, Nemazee said: "I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't have commitments."

Final Delegate Vote Tally - by state

September 8, 2008 by admin

The final state-by-state delegate vote tally for the Democratic presidential nomination can be found here.

The cumulative finish was Senator Obama at 3,188.5 and Senator Clinton at 1010.5.

That leaves 300 delegates unaccounted for, probably stuck on buses or more likely hanging out at the MSNBC booth waiting to see the next Joe Scarborough meltdown.

Update from Matt: We're going through the numbers in detail now, but already found one interesting thing. When Arkansas announced their totals, it was Obama 47, Clinton 0. But the tally sheet shows: Obama 37, Clinton 8. So the announced votes at the convention may not match up with the tally sheets.

Who said blogging is for the young generation. The LA  Times has decided to "blog" with a few old guys.  Hey, I'm not hating, I'm old school myself, but come on folks, this is not real blogging. This is just newspapers saying they have a bloggers section and assigning a old news staffers as 'bloggers' Right? doing the same thing they have been doing for years, providing standard news based on LA Time standards. Here are the LA time bloggers:  Don Frederick
Don Frederick has served as an editor helping guide coverage of every presidential election since 1984. He is a third-generation Washingtonian, so watching the political world comes naturally to him.
