Virginia's 2nd Congressional District Debate: Nye v. Drake
We interrupt this coverage of Barack Obama and John McCain, to give you some local political news.
If you haven't guessed, from my coverage of the Virginia Democratic Convention, I live in Virginia. A swing state. Finally! We've been working hard to make Virginia turn blue this year. It's happening in our local elections too. We're actually fielding Democratic candidates in all 11 of our Congressional Districts for the first time since anyone can remember.
Memorandum from the McCain Campaign
From Kombiz Lovosany at the DNC:
Now that John McCain has made one common, innocent American idiom off limits - watch for this guidance from the McCain campaign declaring more idioms off limits - until, of course, they decide to use one of them themselves.

Re: Common American Idioms that are Now Off Limits
A Day Late and a Dollar Short:
Meghan McCain, appearing on the Today Show, made one of the most egotistical and ignorant statements I've ever heard. It was stunning in its thoughtlessness and dismissive of the sacrifice of millions of people with loved ones serving in the Middle East.
When asked what she thinks when Barack Obama and others say her father doesn't "get it" she said,
I think my father gets it more than anyone. I mean, my family — I have two brothers serving in the military. One is about to redeploy to Iraq. My father is obviously a famous war hero. No one knows what war is like other than my family, period.
(Emphasis mine.) She then went on to point out that Sarah Palin's son, Track, is deploying to Iraq on September 11th.
Meghan, we need to talk.
Palin in Comparison: Commander-in-Chief?
First, let's touch on Sarah Palin's experience with the military:
*crickets chirping*
Yeah, well, that about sums it up. In all that I've read and heard about her in the last few days (and trust me, that's A LOT), I've been unable to find any experience with military issues, aside from having a son in Iraq. She did visit Kuwait once, where she encouraged the soldiers to go big game hunting in Alaska. I'm sure that was foremost on their minds.
