Dear Max Baucus: Get out of my way

That's right, Senator Max Baucus. I'm talking to YOU. Let me tell you a little about the past 30 days of my life.
You see, I have this kid. He's a good kid. A great kid, in fact. He's my birthday present...born on my 31st birthday at 1:11pm (13:11 if you're number superstitious). He's really talented, too. He produced his first CD this summer, which he considers to be the beginning of his long and productive musical career.
For the past month, he's been really, really sick. He can't keep food in him, is in constant middle-bending just-shoot-me kind of pain, and has lost 20 pounds (he only weighed 165 to begin with).

Tele-Town Hall with Gus Bilirakis
The things I do for this blog! Last night my representative (ha!), Congressman Gus Bilirakis, held a conference call town hall meeting on healthcare reform. I decided to participate in order to take the pulse of those on the call, as well as to hear the latest GOP talking points on healthcare from Gus so I could share my findings with you.
These were my take-aways:
–Talking Point 1 – “President Obama’s plan/bill” Despite the fact that the president has taken a hands-off approach and let Congress write the bill, it’s his bill.
–Talking Point 2 – “rank and file Democrats” This was used more than once to distinguish between ordinary Dems (Gus LIKES some Democrats) and the Dem leadership such as Nancy Pelosi and Henry Waxman. Gotta demonize those San Francisco/California liberals!
–Talking Point 3 – “Democrats won’t listen to Republicans. I wish we could have civilized discussions.” Maybe Democrats will be “civilized” when Republicans stop calling them Communists, Socialists, Nazis and Fascists.
–Talking Point 4 – “The public option would ration care.” I won’t comment on the obvious.
–Talking Point 5 – “Tort reform” will solve everything.
"The Great Unfinished Business of Our Time": Health Care Reform
In the closing passages of his speech to the joint session of Congress, President Obama urged members of the House and Senate to rise to the finest in our national character and finally provide a humane way to address the health needs of all of America's citizens. We know the status quo is broken. What'll we do about it?
Woven into the soaring rhetoric of President Obama's speech were specific calls to three prominent Republican senators: Senator John McCain, Senator Orrin Hatch, and Senator Chuck Grassley.
Boustany's THIRD Lie
Congressman Lord Boustany
stated in his Republican response tonight:
"Replacing your family's current health care with government-run health care is not the answer."
Ya know, I almost feel bad for you, my Lord. Your ideological brain wrap is severely limiting your critical thinking skills. The public option would be a non-profit, unsubsidized (that means the federal government will NOT be covering its costs) insurance program that will directly compete with insurance companies game enough to compete for money of tens of millions of Americans who don't have health insurance through their job.
For the folks that have private health insurance, or Medicare, or Medicaid, or the VA, or TriCare, they will not have this option. Why? Because they'll already have health insurance. They won't need to sign up for the public health insurance program.
