It's a bit early for Halloween, but I'd like to suggest what we have in the GOP's McCain-Palin '08 ticket are a pair of zombie candidates. And I'm not just saying this because McCain's old and looks a little desiccated. Hear me out.

Zombies: they don't know they're dead. They just keep stiff-leggedly lurching around trying to eat human flesh and human brains 'til someone stops them and buries them for good.

Where did this self-described "pitbull with lipstick" Sarah Palin come from? The manicured look and home-baked cookies demeanor on the outside, and Jerry Falwell Phyllis Schlafly extremism on the inside--brought to you courtesy of the Republican Party's Candidate-o-Matic: GOPAC.

Take away the ghostwritten speech and the media coaching on McCain talking points, and what have you got? I'd like to see, as I doubt you can stuff years of substance into two months of cramming.

Angering, of all people, her soulmate Phyllis Schlafly. Conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly lashed out Tuesday at the McCain campaign after it suddenly canceled an appearance by vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin at an event sponsored by Schlafly’s Republican National Coalition for Life. Palin was to receive the “Life of the Party” award and deliver the keynote speech at the event this
