Suburban Milwaukee Crossroads Author Unafraid To Say "Apartheid"

I don't know Dr. John Ridley, a retired surgeon living in Mequon, but I appreciate his Sunday Crossroads op-ed's straight-forwardness:
I have relatives who live in Whitefish Bay near Hampton Ave., and I have relatives who live in Milwaukee's central city near Hampton Ave. Only a few miles separate their neighborhoods, but they live worlds apart...

It's currently fashionable to assert that folks are mired in poverty due to an unwillingness to assume personal responsibility. It should be equally stressed that in Milwaukee's case, the practice of apartheid as public policy systematically created the distressed environment that sculpts such lives.
People yell at me sometimes for using the word "apartheid" to describe our region's policy-driven reality - - an example, here - - but it's the truth, as I see it.

And, alas, the analysis is not new.

Embattled Walker Aide Enjoying Public Service Benefits Years In The Making

You couldn't miss in this Journal Sentinel story the details about accumulated, banked and transferable sick leave benefits being used by Cynthia Archer. (Or how she and other Walker political appointees have gotten big raises in "broke" Wisconsin.)
...Archer was using banked sick time and some vacation time to cover her paycheck while she was off. Archer asked that 120 hours of her banked sick time be used to pay her during her medical leave, which would cover three of the four weeks she's had on leave.

Archer had accumulated 344 hours of sick leave before cashing in a portion of it. She worked for the state earlier in her career, from 1987 to 2003, according to her résumé. She started as an analyst with the Legislative Audit Bureau and worked as a budget analyst and division administrator for the state Department of Corrections.

After leaving the state government employment in 2003, Archer worked as an administrator for Blackhawk Technical College, Brown County and Milwaukee County.

All I know is what I read in the papers

Headline: Former Walker aide Archer says she has done nothing wrong

A former top aide to Gov. Scott Walker said in a sharply worded email Thursday that "I have done absolutely nothing wrong" in connection with an FBI raid of her Madison home. -- Journal Sentinel.

So what makes Cindy Archer a "former" top aide to Walker?  She is still on the state payroll, albeit it in a slight less visible job which pays somewhat less than deputy of DOA.

There's no "former" about it.  She is still a key player in Walker's administration.  Wallker does not deserve a pass.

UPDATE:  It turns out that all Walker knows is what he reads in the papers, too, he says:

Obviously, we'll be paying attention if anything more comes up, but what I know personally right now is what I've seen and read published in papers or on media reports. - Gov. Scott Walker, asked about his knowledge surrounding a search of the home of his former aide.

If he doesn't know any more, it's because he doesn't want to know and is being careful not to ask any questions.

At least that's what I assume this announcement must be. Sort of like PolitiFact but focused on religious claims instead of political ones:

Can't wait.
