Governor Robert Bentley of Alabama has expressed his desire to get the Federal Government out of the affairs of Alabama. Governor Bentley (like most GOPers) is a strong supporter of states' rights. When something goes wrong in the State of Alabama, it is the Federal Government's fault. This political belief did not stop Governor Bentley from taking FEMA money during the April 2011 Tornado outbreak, however, Governor Bentley used his states' rights priniciples for another cause.
Governor Bentley signed into law the country's meanest cruelest toughest Immigration Law. Governor Bentley stated he signed the law because the Federal Government was not doing it part. This was a swipe at the Obama Administration. However, the Governor failed to mention how the Obama Administration has deported more illegals in three years than eight years of the Bush Administration. However, the policies of the Governor should be carried out to the fulliest.
Governor Bentley wants to rid Alabama of the Federal Goverment. He believes strongly that illegal immigration is a serious threat to this state. According to the Governor, people who are here illegally are breaking the law. Also the Governor believes anyone who interacts with illegals is breaking the law. In this case, the Governor should apply his beliefs.
You don't need a former TV weatherman to know which way the wind is blowing
Former weathercaster OttFormer Milwaukee TV weatherman Armin (Jim) Ott has some 'splainin' to do. Voters might be surprised to learn an Assembly committee co-chaired by Ott, a Mequon Republican, is busy sneaking through a bill gutting what meager campaign finance disclosure rules are still maintained by the state Government Accountability Board.
The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign reported that Ott and other Republicans who control the Joint Committee for Review of Administrative Rules didn’t stop there. "In addition to rolling back existing GAB rules they handcuffed the agency, prohibiting any future rulemaking requiring disclosure of corporate electioneering."
Because, hey, it wouldn't be good to let the public know who's funding political parties and candidates in Wisconsin, now, would it? Especially if they are corporations and right-wing think tanks who give to Republicans. At least, that's the evident attitude of Republicans now in control of your state government.
At ThinkProgress.org, journalist Matt Yglesias points to a little noticed component of conservative political mantra that's holding back the national economic recovery -- one that's clearly at work right here in Wisconsin: Cuts in public-sector employment that offset private-sector job growth.
Imagine for a moment if Boston, Denver, or Seattle [or, we might add, Milwaukee] — cities of roughly 600,000 residents — simply disappeared. Well, since the recession officially ended, about 600,000 public sector jobs previously held by 600,000 real people have disappeared from the economy — consistently offsetting some of the gains made in the private sector. Indeed, today’s stunner headline that ZERO jobs were created in August was the result of 17,000 new private sector jobs being offset by 17,000 more government jobs being axed.
Yglesias expands on this fact:
