Labor Day welcomes friends of labor, not enemies
The organizers of Wausau's Labor Day parade have told Republican elected officials they are not invited to participate.
Which is as it should be. The day and event are to celebrate organized labor in this country, and those who have helped to advance its cause and that of working people should be welcome. Others, not so welcome.
To put it into perspective: Can you imagine State Sen. Alberta darling or Rep. James Sensenbrenner marching in the Milwaukee Labor Day parade?
Me, either.
UPDATE: The rule for the Milwaukee parade is no politicians unless they are invited by one of the member unions to march with them.
