Why would the business interest driven media hide the assassination plot news?
Isn't it funny how the liberal media the ring-wing noise machine keeps ranting about simply does not exist?
Crooks and Liars has an excellent analysis of the foiled attempt to shoot Barack Obama, United States Attorney of Colorado Troy Eid's attempt to portray this as a minor threat, and the media (all networks) simply not reporting on it at all or hiding the story as deeply as they can while giving token coverage and attempting to write this off as shenanigans by meth-heads.
Scant Coverage of Obama Assassination Plot; Irresponsible or Cautious? makes a pretty interesting read.
Of course Eid is a Bush appointee, but no... that really is not a part of this at all is it?
Stories in the news
As I am sitting at the moment surfing the web here’s a few stories of interest I thought I’d flag…
Check out this special report from Reuters that covers gay marriage issues from several issues facing GLBT people. Immigration law, reforendums on the ballot in November, state by state gay marriage laws on the books, Reuters Special Coverage article on gay marriage.
Amy Goodman of Democracy Now was arrested in Minniappolis at the RNC. If you’re not listening to Democracy Now or watching it on TV check it out here.
Amy reports the stories the corporate owned media stations won’t or can’t report. After her experiences at the Republican Convention I’m sure her reports are going to be VERY interesting.
Donna Brazille was hit by pepper spray walking in to the Republican Convention
Thanks Jeff for the kind words….
Going to St. Paul? Be Warned….
You might get arrested for protesting. Or just being in the opposition party. Amy Goodman of Democracy Now was. From Glenn Greenwald:
Beginning last night, St. Paul was the most militarized I have ever seen an American city be, even more so than Manhattan in the week of 9/11 — with troops of federal, state and local law enforcement agents marching around with riot gear, machine guns, and tear gas canisters, shouting military chants and marching in military formations. Humvees and law enforcement officers with rifles were posted on various buildings and balconies. Numerous protesters and observers were tear gassed and injured.
Lies and big lies (and radicalizing moments)
There's a GREAT picture of some kid dressed in black throwing something into a store window. Clearly the violent protesters are violent and doing violence.
And three broken Macy's windows, two broken police car windows, and two popped tires are plenty of reason to deploy batons, pepperspray, pepper balls (like paintballs but with pepperspray), tear gas, flash-grenades, and at least 200 arrests, including
Democracy Now host Amy Goodman. At least they didn't use the tasers. But they did
pepperspray a girl trying to hand a cop a daisy.
Sigh... it's been a long day in Saint Paul. I got my press pass and didn't make in into the convention center, but that's OK because there really wasn't much going on inside.
My sweetie works at a church where they gave out water all day. There was a guy with a red-white-and-blue doggie. He was fabulous. So was the dog. The permit march brought at least ten thousand out. After the permit march, the direct action crew tried to blockade delegates, even though the convention was a party for a no-show, to nominate the also-ran.
