Amy Goodman (Democracy Now) Arrested
AAPP: Amy Goodman, independent and highly respected news reporter, was arrested yesterday... with a press pass. I guess we can call this Republican Democracy in action. Or was Amy wrong for trying to crash police lines? Here is the story as reported by the LA Times blog:
Amy Goodman, the host of the popular radio and television program "Democracy Now!" was at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul on Monday, interviewing members of the Alaska delegation, when her phone rang with alarming news.
“I got a call that two of our producers had been bloodied by the police,” Goodman said. “I did not stop running until I got to where they were.”
Journalists Arrested at RNC
As you may have heard, a number of journalists were swept up in the wide net during the attempt to suppress dissent at the Republican Convention.

Democracy Now was arrested along with two producers, in one high profile case.
One journalist putting herself on the line, and returning with amazing footage is Denver area videographer, Corrine McDermid who films for The Uptake.
Check out this crazy tense moment as she is ordered by a massive number of police to sit on the ground and put her hands on her head, and does so with her camera still running.

Freedom of Press, Speech, Assembly in Jeopardy at the RNC
Respected and well-known American journalist Amy Goodman, host of Pacifica Radio's Democracy Now! radio show, was arrested by Minneapolis Police Monday afternoon. Two of her show's producers, Sharif Abdel Kouddous and Nicole Salazar, were also detained, violently, by police as they attempted to report on an anti-war protest. Audio of the arrest recorded by a witness is available here, and I've embedded video of it below. As you will hear, these members of the press were arrested despite several members of the crowd vouching for their identities as reporters. Goodman was charged with obstruction, and her producers face felony rioting charges; all were released today.

Last night was a pretty intense night at the Republican National Convention. Protesters at the RNC were pepper sprayed, beaten with clubs, indiscriminately arrested and otherwise harassed nonstop. Among the arrested was noted indy media journalist and Democracy Now! broadcaster, Amy Goodman.
