Milwaukee Veterans for Peace will sponsor its third annual Armistice Day observance on Friday, Nov. 11, at 7 pm in the rotunda of Milwaukee City Hall.

Can We Expect an October Surprise?

September 13, 2008 by MOMocrats

The election is 52 days away. I'm hearing more and more talk of an "October Surprise" (defined as an event that occurs just in time to swing a Presidential election).

Earlier this week, ABC reported that the McCain campaign is worried that the Troopergate investigation into Sarah Palin's alleged abuse of power may be turned into one that will harm their campaign.

To be honest, I don't think the people who have fallen in love with Governor Palin would give a hoot over this. After all, these are presumably the same people who re-elected George W. Bush, despite evidence that he lied to the nation about weapons of mass destruction and diverted our military from capturing Osama bin Laden and eliminating Al Qaeda in Afghanistan so we could start an unnecessary war in Iraq. Next to that, bullying a public servant to fire a former in-law seems trivial.

But over the last few days, I've been hearing lots of speculation about an operation to capture Osama -- timed just right to be the kind of October surprise that could keep the GOP in power for another four years.

The reviews are coming in, and it ain't exactly pretty.

From MSNBC Firstread, here are some of the reviews of Palin's interview with Charlie Gibson.

The lead from the Los Angeles Times: "The Alaska governor also reversed her stand on the cause of climate change, telling ABC News that she believes 'man's activities certainly can be contributing to the issue of global warming.' Less than a year ago, she said the opposite."

The New York Times' Jim Rutenberg: "At times visibly nervous, at others appearing to hew so closely to prepared answers that she used the exact same phrases repeatedly..."

Obama v. McCain on the Issues: Standing Up for Women and Families

September 5, 2008 by MOMocrats

After all the lies we heard coming out of the RNC, and since the Republicans had their chance yet choose not to talk about REAL ISSUES for an entire week, let's take a closer look at the differences between Obama and McCain's policies that affect working families most.

ISSUE: STANDING UP FOR WOMEN AND FAMILIES

Note: John McCain has NO WOMEN/FAMILIES ISSUES section on his official website. Barack Obama has both.
