Denver awaits the Blend
Greetings from Lakewood, Colorado. "Radical" Russ here, camped out in advance a mile high in the Rockies.
First off, what a gracious bunch of tippers y'all are here in the coffeehouse! Our humble thanks for the honor of covering this event; without your support, it wouldn't have been possible.
I've been here since Thursday and road-tripped in from Portland (story below), so I've got wheels. (I'm the Blend cabbie!) I'm so excited for my first face-to-face meeting with Autumn (afternoon pickup at DIA) and Pam (evening pickup at DIA). Terrance, sorry I didn't get your flight schedule earlier, or I'd be on my way to the airport to get you, too!
I'll be videotaping and audio recording for the crew and getting all the photos I can. Our crew has all the letters of the LGBT community (so long as the "B" stands for "Belville"...)
How Many Houses Was That, Again?
Yikes. John McCain lives in houses owned by his wife and children, and if you count up all the houses they own it actually comes to twelve, worth more than $10 million:
McCain's campaign says the Arizona senator has four residences: condos in Phoenix, Arlington, Va., and Coronado, Calif., and a house in Sedona, Ariz. All are owned by his wife, Cindy, and their children, who also own eight other residential properties. Those include four other houses at the 15-acre Sedona spread and four more condos, according to real estate records and the senator's financial disclosure reports. The dozen properties are worth more than $10 million, current assessments show.
If the issue is which of these two men is really the out-of-touch elitist, it's no contest:
McCain, who has portrayed Obama as an elitist, is the son and grandson of admirals. The Associated Press estimates his wife, a beer heiress, is worth $100 million. Obama was raised by a single mother who relied at times on food stamps, and went to top schools on scholarships and loans. His income has increased from book sales since he spoke at the 2004 Democratic convention.
If you want a glimpse of what the McCain's rich-and-famous elite lifestyle looks like, check out this little slide show. And here's a new video from the DNC, showing how people on the street react to the inability to remember how many houses one owns:
McCain Oopsapalooza Tour 4
As usual, Digg it up! Past Oopsapaloozas here.

The Hopi Kachina doll room.
"Ordinary," everyday "regular" guy John McCain's Phoenix, AZ home, one of NINE he and his wife own or owned, featured in Architectural Digest, 2005. Yet he's not elitist. In spite of the wife's family fortune and private jet.
