Scott Beason Gets Off Scot Free

Senate Republicans have carefully considered Sen. Scott Beason's misbehaviors and decided that he deserves .... drum roll, please .... absolutely no punishment whatsoever.  Yeah, they're through making excuses for Beason -- they've formally decided to impose no consequences for Beason's bad behavior.  As usual, it's OK if you're a Republican (IOKIYAAR).

Beason will making a personal statement in a couple of hours.  No way to know if it's Scott "I might be wearing a wire" Beason, Scott "Empty the Clip" Beason, Scott "They're Aborigines" Beason or all three of them who will be speaking "personally," but don't look for any of them to resign from the Legislature, voluntarily give up the Senate Rules Committee Chairmanship or issue a sincere apology for the appalling, scummy things he's said when he knew he was being overheard.  If Beason says crap like that in public, just imagine what he says in private.  And for sure don't hold your breath waiting for Beason to tell the people of Jefferson County he's sorry for pushing them to the very brink of bankruptcy.

Why don't Beason's fellow Republicans at least insist he give up his position in the Senate leadership?  As the ADP says, Beason seems to have them cowed:

“Scott Beason only cares about himself,” said Judge Mark Kennedy, Chairman of the Alabama Democrats. “He will do whatever it takes to claw his way to the top, even if it means dragging his fellow Republicans into a federal trial by wearing a wire or trying to bankrupt Jefferson County. If the Republican caucus doesn’t have the fortitude to take him to task over this, I can only wonder what else that wire recorded them saying. I wonder if we’ll ever get to hear those tapes.” 

“The Republicans have a supermajority,” Kennedy added. “And this is the man they choose to lead one of the most powerful committees in the legislature. Maybe he’ll be too busy embarrassing himself on the stand again during the next trial to do any more damage to our state, but I sure wish he’d been recording whatever happened last week.”

You have to wonder, what tapes of his fellow GOPpers does Beason have that the FBI never heard?
