We Won't Miss "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"
As of midnight Eastern time, the stupid "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy is no more. It lasted 18 years and cost over 14,000 soldiers their military careers. The human toll is incalculable: thousands more were forced to live a lie in order to keep serving their country.
The law has changed, but attitudes toward gay soldiers began evolving long ago. The younger generation just has other stuff to worry about. These soldiers will still face challenges though:
