Occupy Birmingham Growing
The movement to Occupy Birmingham is growing exponentially. Last night's meeting was attended by 300 people as well as at least five media organizations.
If you have missed the first meetings don't despair - there will be another one this weekend. Please plan to attend. This is what Democracy looks like. We are the 99%. We will not be silent. Every voice is important and every person counts. You CAN make a difference.
Join us on:
Sunday, 09 October 2011 at Brother Bryan Park/Magnolia Park at 1pm. This is a pot luck - you are encouraged to bring food. More specifics to follow.
Republicans Answer President Obama's Jobs Challenge!
During his press conference yesterday, President Obama challenged the GOP to present alternative ideas for job creation. The President said they have yet to do so. Oh please. Tell the truth, Mr. President! The GOP is FULL of crap job-creation ideas. Have you forgotten these gems?
Right here in Alabama, Scott Beason & Micky Hammon sponsored a bill to solve unemployment by kicking out all the undocumented workers. So... so it didn't work that well. But that's because Scott Beason is lazier than we realized.
In Washington, Republican Congressmen think repealing health care reform will put "800,000 people" back to work.
People Who Are Crazy Enough To Think They Can Change The World
Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth, 1922-2011
Steve Jobs, 1955-2011
What a grim coincidence that we should lose two crazy, misfit, rebel, trouble-makers who believed they could change the world ... and did! ... in a single day. May their lives inspire a new generation of round pegs in square holes.
Food Safety Is A Public Health & National Security Issue
If we had terrorists loose in this country who killed 3,000 people each year, the GOP would be going nuts. But what's their response to the estimated 3,000 people who die annually from tainted food? Michelle Bachmann suggests eliminating all food safety laws and other GOP proposals would gut food inspection and enforcement. As Think Progress reported earlier this year:
Under the House Republicans’ proposal to reduce non-defense discretionary spending, the FDA’s $2.3 billion budget (which makes up a whopping 0.07 percent of the overall federal budget) will be reduced by 20 percent, imperiling the jobs of 3,000 inspectors.
Occupy Wall Street - Huntsville & Birmingham Tonight
The Occupy Wall Street movement is going local, even in Alabama where the Big Mules have been running the show since ... well, if not since the beginning of time, at least since the Europeans moved in.

Our plan is simple. Be seen, be heard, and do so peacefully and with respect.
We are the 99% and we are Huntsville.
