America: Yours, Mine and Ours - Pt. 1

Part One: Yours, Mine...

One of the things I hoped for when Michelle Obama spoke at the Democratic convention, was that she would introduce people to the America that she came from, and that was the setting of her story. One of the biggest shames in the campaign - aside from the fact that political realities required this intelligent, accomplished woman to effectively bite her tongue for the last couple of months - is the lack of any honest discussion about the reality that we don't all live in the same America. It's one reality that both progressives and conservatives must grapple with between now and November, and beyond

Delivered on a night that carried the theme "One America," her speech should serve as a reminder that if we are to be America, we have to first acknowledge that what we have are three America's: yours, mine, and ours.

When Will Media Begin Vetting McCain?

September 4, 2008 by buckeyestateblog

Also, one other thing. Sarah Palin has been subject to a rigorous vetting process by the media over the past week. When will John McCain get a similar vetting? When we people learn that he finished 894th out his class of 899 at the Naval Academy? When will people learn that the only reason McCain is in the Senate in the first place is because he callously divorced his first wife after arriving home to find her crippled in a car accident, and married a woman 18 years his junior whose family was worth tens of millions of dollars? Obama has been rigorously vetted by the primaries, but McCain had the GOP nomination all but wrapped up after Super Tuesday and thus never received the same vetting. With 60 days til Election Day, isn't it about time for the media to begin vetting McCain?

New Movie Quotes Fellow McCain POW Saying McCain Not Fit To Be President

September 2, 2008 by admin

This one is noteworthy, because it's a first stab at directly taking on McCain's war service in a sustained way by arguing that his POW experience has rendered him temperamentally unfit to be president.

Take a look at the latest film from Robert Greenwald of Brave New Films -- it stars fellow POW Phillip Butler arguing that he knows from bitter experience that a POW past is not what you want in the leader of the free world:

The film has accents -- stylistically, at least -- of the Swift Boat Vets' ads against John Kerry. In it, Butler rather bluntly suggests that McCain's POW past has rendered him mentally too unstable for the White House.

So, either he is dumb or he was a spoiled brat kid who got into the naval academy as a legacy and took advantage of the fact that his Dad was Admiral. Or, I guess, it could be both.

Well, here are some excepts from Miltary.com written by fellow POW and one of his Naval Academy friends. The article is titled Why I Will Not Vote for John McCain

As some of you might know, John McCain is a long-time acquaintance of mine that goes way back to our time together at the U.S. Naval Academy and as Prisoners of War in Vietnam. He is a man I respect and admire in some ways. But there are a number of reasons why I will not vote for him for President of the United States...
