We’ve done some extraordinary things together, but now it’s time to take the next step and build a lasting movement to fight back against budget cuts and stand up for Florida’s forgotten middle class.
Register for the first ever Awake The State Summit today and make history with us.
From October 22-23, Awake The State organizers and supporters from around the state will come together at the University of Central Florida in Orlando to organize and build a strong movement in every corner of Florida. Since our first successful protest on March 8th, which drew 15,000 Floridians in more than 40 locations from Pensacola to Key West, Awake The State organizers and supporters have started building local networks of allies to make our movement a permanent part of their own communities. We want to nurture and grow these remarkable efforts.
This is a once in a generation opportunity to build a movement that brings teachers and firefighers, union members and environmentalists, students and seniors, and many more together to fight back against Gov. Scott’s anti-middle class agenda. Together, we must seize this moment.
Register for the Awake The State Summit today and let’s build our movement throughout Florida.
Saturday, October 22 will focus on best practices in organizing and communications for both seasoned organizers and interested supporters alike. We will have sessions on how to build and manage a coalition, engage the media, use social media effectively, interact with legislators and policymakers and more.
Sunday, October 23 will feature LegiCamp 2012 – a program designed to build greater understanding about the issues we’ll face in next year’s legislative session while providing opportunities to develop new coalitions and ideas for how to deal with these issues. LegiCamp follows an “unconference” model where participants set the agenda by bringing their own ideas for sessions. Want to discuss a state or local issue that you’re concerned about? Have an idea for a rally or want to start a campaign holding a particular legislator accountable? This is your opportunity to see if your idea is viable and to build support for it. The first LegiCamp was held in February this year, and one of its products was Awake The State! We’re very excited to host the second LegiCamp as part of our Summit.
Register for the Awake The State Summit today and let’s continue to Awake The State!
For Florida,
