Meetup and interview with Rep. Tammy Baldwin at the convention

8:50PM MT:  Right now, people are gathered around the nearby monitors to watch Hillary Clinton's speech. I hope everyone enjoyed the CoverItLive Blend chat tonight (it's actually still going on now, and is archived to read once it's over). I've been in and out of the room as I've been blogging.

So I'm typing away here on Radio Row, sitting on a folding chair with the laptop on another chair. I look up and who is walking by? Rep. Tammy Baldwin, who earlier in the day introduced Michelle Obama at the HRC/Victory Fund LGBT delegate luncheon.

She actually recognized me and came over and gave me a hug and introduced her partner Lauren Azar (who you might recall, ended up in the news over the military's attempt to deny the ability of Azar to fly with Baldwin on a fact-finding trip; Speaker Pelosi intervened). Mike Signorile snapped up his audio equipment to do a short interview, and I videotaped it. I got in a question at the end. I'll have the full video up once I have time, but below the fold is the snippet with my question and her answer.

Blogging from Radio Row tonight

I am in the convention center on Radio Row, blogging from the Sirius OutQ booth at the Pepsi Center;  I was on The Michelangelo Signorile Show this afternoon; ally Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) was on after my segment. I'll probably be on the air again before the end of the week.

It was chaos getting to the convention hall from the Michelle Obama event this afternoon (I have one video up now, more to come). While it's not humid in Denver, the sun is blazing hot, and I have some sunburn from my walk. Taking a cab was not possible with all the traffic tied up from the presence of  Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton at the same hotel (the latter was at the Emily's List event).

Right now I'm sitting here at the Sirius booth charging up the laptop as I blog, thanks to Mike's and David Guggenheim's (his producer) thoughtful offer to do so. I also handed over some Lifesavers to Mike to provide some relief for his throat. He's hoarse from all of the interviews and the altitude here.

Postcards From Denver: Day One, Part One

postcard - DENver airportSo, I flew into Denver yesterday, after not bothering to go to bed Saturday night, because my flight was at 6:06 a.m. and the shuttle to Dulles picked me up at 3:29 a.m. Besides, I wasn't able to pack until after the kids went to bed. But then I wanted to help the hubby fold the laundry, and wanted to load and run the dishwasher, since I was leaving him on his own with the kids to go off and witness history. Oh yeah, and blog about it.

The problem is, my first day at the convention, I didn't really see much to blog about. Actually, I sat in on about 15 minutes of the LGBT caucus, and saw Michelle Obama's speech on a television screen with closed captioning and the volume turned down, and from a distance at that. But, at least I got a pretty good story out of it. So, maybe the day wasn't a total loss.

GOP platform calls for FMA

August 26, 2008 by PamsHouseBlend

While we're worried about whether we're called by name or not on the Democratic Platform, the Republicans have their draft out and they're calling for FMA.

Even though the GOP can't bring themselves to even submit the FMA this session in the House, they're still going to pretend like they actually care about getting that legislation through at all. They know the value of getting the homophobes out to vote for McCain, so they have to throw them some meat.

The Log Cabin's response is, well, not unexpected, and after the the jump.
