Denver: two arrested in Obama assassination plot
Nathan Johnson, 32, and 28-year-old Tharin Gartrell. Good lord, look at these
domestic terrorists. Does this mean we can now start the random profiling because of the bad blond dye job and possible inbreeding?
We certainly didn't hear anything about a plot while we were around, but the heinous lines going into the Pepsi Center this afternoon may have meant they ratcheted up the security even tighter.
According to multiple sources, Aurora police made a routine traffic stop Sunday morning at 2:38 a.m. and arrested 28-year-old Tharin Gartrell. Sources say he was driving a rented pickup truck. The Secret Service says two rifles were found in his truck along with methamphetamine.
The Freepers Come Through Again
Why I decided to take a peek at what the freakepers were saying about Michelle Obama's speech, I don't know - but I did:
"Go to any of the news networks.....any of them.....and look at the Pundits.......they’ve got their funeral faces on. They’re trying to spin it, but all of them know this night fell completely flat."
"Is it just me or does Michelle Obama look like she’s on steroids?"
"I’ve always thought that she looked a little 'manly'”.
"My stomach and my blood pressure can’t tolerate watching Liberal human waste on display."
"Mrs Black Racist Oblack was definately muzzled tonite. She was Ozzie and Harriet for the masses. Wonder if she would like to walk in those S. Chicago neighborhoods her husband has done so much for?"
I wish I was making those up - but, of course, I'm not.
The Monday CoverItLive Blend DNC coffeehouse is open
Home base barista Julien Sharp is your host this evening, the opening night of primetime convention coverage. I'll pop in to join the conversation in the jumping coffeehouse and perhaps share a photo or two. Click the icon below to participate.
Below the fold is the run of show for tonight's Convention proceedings.
Sweltering in "The Big Tent"
I've found the "Big Tent", sponsored by Digg and Google and Daily Kos, which is a large communal area where we can find AC power and wi-fi connection.
The place is really lacking in ventilation and the temp is probably in the 80s. Coupled with my ten miles biking, four miles walking, a sunburn and three hours of sleep the night before, I think that means my convention day is over.
A few liberal big wigs came by to give ad hoc interviews to bloggers milling about. Liberal Oasis blogger Bill Scher caught up with Arianna and I've got some of that on video. Jonathan Alter and John Podesta were also seen in the tent, and I just missed Rachel Maddow (mmm. my lesbian crush) earlier at 3pm.

Discussions with the Pro-Government-Enforced-Procreation demonstrators
As Pam noted, she and Terrance and Autumn use the Blend's credentials to attend stimulating and provocative presentations and workshops in comfortably-appointed air-conditioned hotel conference rooms. Meanwhile, I'm capturing the flavor of the convention outside amongst the hoi polloi in 90+ Denver heat. I'm a bit sunburned and very exhausted, but this was worth it!
As I rode my free bike around Downtown Denver (see update to Julien's post below) I found some of the fun groups gathered for the convention.

The "Stop the Torture" demonstration down at the park.

One of the under-dressed and under-epuipped police at the convention center making sure the free speech doesn't lead to violence, alongside one of the NARAL volunteers countering this kind of crap (pic after jump so you don't have to see an aborted fetus if you don't want to...)
