All I know is what I read in the papers

I thought this PolitiFact item may be the first time the Journal Sentinel has ever mentioned Fighting Bob Fest, even though thousands of progressives have been attending the annual event for 10 years.

But a search of jsonline turns up one other, a six-line blog item in August.

But this appears to be the first time it actually has appeared in print. The newspaper has never covered the event or reported on its speakers, although many are nationally prominent and crowds are 5 to 10 times the biggest Tea Party rally Wisconsin has ever seen.

If a great protest falls upon Wall Street, and no reporter is there to write about it, does it make a noise?

Occupy Wall StreetOccupy Wall StreetThe other day I blogged about how the "occupation" of Wall Street in New York City by thousands of demonstrators for more than a week has raised hardly a blip on the domestic news media radar screen. It's as if editors and news directors (and their corporate masters) have decided there's nothing new to see here. So move on, move on (wait, even that sounds too radical).

But it's even worse than malign neglect, because in the rare moments when a mainstream news outlet does mention the protests (which like those in Wisconsin beforehand have been very peaceful, and which have attracted Web-based pizza orders from afar), the tone is almost ominous. Consider, for example, this lead-in from CNN "Situation Room" host Wolf Blitzer last Monday: "Protests here in New York on Wall Street entering a third day. Should New Yorkers be worried at all about what's going on?"

But I Still Keep My Subscription

I spent the majority of my last two weeks canvassing outside of my county in two of the most historical elections in Wisconsin's history. Many of you reading this are probably saying something like, "Well  he should be working for a cause." or "That Steve, he just likes to talk." or "It's about time he gets off his ass and does something." I'm sure many of you may be saying something quite different as well. If a common Wisconsin media outlet were to have covered me here's likely what the "story" would say:
