Debunking the Myths: Tax Cuts Don't Create Jobs
Here's a very important article by retired U.S. magistrate judge Vanzetta McPherson: Politicians perpetuate lie ...
If you repeat a lie often enough, people begin to believe it.
The lie in question, told statewide and nationwide, is that there is a direct link between taxing businesses and increased unemployment.
...
There are so many tax breaks available for corporations in Alabama that in 2008, 67 percent of Alabama's 25,000 corporations paid no taxes at all.
...
Politicians know all too well that tax breaks do not create jobs.
... why do politicians perpetuate the lie that cutting taxes will create jobs? It's profit -- only this time it's personal profit, and it comes at every election cycle, neatly packaged as a campaign contribution.
As we've said time and again, if tax cuts for corporations and millionaires created jobs, we would have been at full employment since the Bush tax cuts kicked in. It's the big lie. America needs more articulate, outspoken, truthtellers like Vanzetta McPherson to debunk this Big Economic Lie.
Shorter Mo Brooks: We Got Ours
Congressional Republicans have been using the FEMA Disaster Relief Fund as a political football. Now there's a real possibility of a government shutdown because they've insisted on budget resolutions that either don't replenish the FEMA fund or cut fuel efficiency programs to offset disaster relief funding. Amazingly, even Republicans (like those from Alabama) representing areas recently been struck by natural disasters and receiving FEMA aid are opposed to funding FEMA.
Now Mo Brooks (R, AL-05) offers a window onto the thinking of such Republicans, essentially "We already got ours, screw everybody else!"
U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks (R) said most of the FEMA money for north Alabama storm victims had already been distributed, minimizing the local impact of any potential shutdown.
