10/12: Join Rep. Heinrich's Live Telephone Town Hall on Jobs and Manufacturing

From Congressman Martin Heinrich:
We’ve always been proud to be a country that makes things. Our manufacturing tradition has long been a source of both pride and good-paying jobs. Now, at a time when millions are still out of work, it’s our responsibility to build on that tradition to create jobs, strengthen middle class opportunity, and secure our nation’s leading place in the world economy.
Earlier this year, I launched a “Make It In America” tour. I’ve been traveling across central New Mexico meeting with employees and touring small businesses and high-tech manufacturing companies. I’m highlighting how encouraging innovation, manufacturing, and entrepreneurship is creating new jobs at home and growing our economy.
Poor? Unemployed? It's Your Own Damned Fault!
Republican frontrunner Herman Cain:
"If you don't have a job and you are not rich, blame yourself!"
I'm tempted to say something about so-called compassionate conservatism here, but I'll content myself with asking why the hell is it that the free market gods (otherwise known as "job creators") get all the credit for any economic good news, but presto change-o, when there are 5 applicants for every job and real wages for workers haven't increased since 1975, when all the economic gains of the past 30 years have gone to the super-rich, why the hell do Republicans then turn around and blame it on the workers? It makes no sense to give the "job creators" a get out of jail free card when things turn to crap and it's positively mean-spirited to tell unemployed and underemplyed workers in this economy that it's their own damned fault.
Eric Griego: Sign My Petition to Stand With the 99 Percent

Democracy for New Mexico
This is a guest blog by Eric Griego, candidate for Congress in the NM-1 Democratic primary.
A growing movement of ordinary Americans from all walks of life are marching peacefully in communities throughout the nation to send this message to Washington and Wall Street: We’re fed up with Wall Street greed and Washington inaction on jobs. We need jobs, not cuts, and policies that benefit 99% of Americans instead of only the top 1%. This movement has the potential to change the debate in Washington –- but only if we all stand together.
Today, I stand in solidarity with the 99% and ask you to do the same.

Our plan is simple. Be seen, be heard, and do so peacefully and with respect.
We are the 99% and we are Huntsville.

Bright Spot In NM Special Session: Jobs Bill Signed Into Law

Democracy for New Mexico
Yesterday, Governor Susanna Martinez signed Senate Bill 1 into law, the In-State Preference bill sponsored by Senator Tim Keller (D-Bernalillo-17) in the recent special legislative session. SB-1 was a true bright spot in the recent special session, and is expected to create thousands of new jobs in New Mexico.
Senator Keller and co-sponsor Rep. Larry Larranaga (R-Bernalillo-27) worked with the business community, the Governor’s Office and the Senate Jobs Task Force convened by Majority Floor Leader Senator Michael S. Sanchez (D-Valencia-29), to produce the legislation signed yesterday.
“The enactment of the In-State Preference bill is a shining example of how government should work for the mutual benefit of the people of New Mexico. SB-1 will now create over 3,000 jobs in our state and is the result of nearly two years of bi-partisan collaboration on the part of business stakeholders, the governors’ office and the legislature.”
