Water Under Pressure, From The Arctic To China To Lake Michigan

When it comes to priceless resources, our finite waters are said to be the next oil.

Then why are we doing next to nothing to be good water stewards - - from China to the Arctic, to Canada, to Lake Michigan, to Lake Superior, to Wisconsin wetlands and all the way to the great, Great Plains' Oglalla aquifer - - and why are we tolerating business and governments' disregard for environmental risks, the damage that is coming and is already underway?

Federal Warning About Northern Wisconsin Mining Reviews Makes The Journal Sentinel

Broad coverage and awareness of this vital environmental issue is needed, as pro-WMC FitzWalkerStan hot-heads in the legislature seemed likely to run off and do something dumb and counter-productive to get a 20-mile strip mine underway with little regard for Northern Wisconsin and the Lake Superior watershed.

Dumb, as in, dumb, again. (See: Voter ID law, abandonment of legislative rule-making reviews, concealed carry permissions, collective bargaining wipe out, Medicare restrictions, unemployment comp delays, phosphorus-rule suspension, etc., et al, ad infinitude, ad museum.)

The federal warning has been around since August, with little publicity.

I first wrote about it and posted a link to the warning letter on September 2.

Again on 9/18, so let's keep it going.

Confidence-Builder Up North? - - "Responsible Mining" Endorsed

The Ashland County Board endorses "responsible mining."

That's how you protect the Lake Superior watershed?

Isn't responsible [open pit, for 20 miles, on pristine land] mining a little like "clean coal" or "low-tar cigarettes" or "low-fat potato chips?"

And as the State Legislature gets set to again take up fast-tracked permitting by a DNR deliberately turned pro-business by Scott Walker, is anyone reading the US Army Corps of Engineers warning against short-cutting state mining reviews?

Remember that Walker said he wanted someone running the DNR with "a chamber of commerce mentality."

How's about instead some responsible oversight, responsible policy-making, responsible stewardship, etc?
