Occupy Wall StreetThe other day I blogged about how the "occupation" of Wall Street in New York City by thousands of demonstrators for more than a week has raised hardly a blip on the domestic news media radar screen. It's as if editors and news directors (and their corporate masters) have decided there's nothing new to see here. So move on, move on (wait, even that sounds too radical).
But it's even worse than malign neglect, because in the rare moments when a mainstream news outlet does mention the protests (which like those in Wisconsin beforehand have been very peaceful, and which have attracted Web-based pizza orders from afar), the tone is almost ominous. Consider, for example, this lead-in from CNN "Situation Room" host Wolf Blitzer last Monday: "Protests here in New York on Wall Street entering a third day. Should New Yorkers be worried at all about what's going on?"

Mobile App for Uppity Wisconsin available for Android
Original Author:

Android MarketThe first version of the Uppity Wisconsin App for Android is now available in the Android Market. If you go to the web site from an Android phone you'll now be given the choice of going to the mobile version of the web site, or downloading the Android App from the Market. The application is free (though it is advertising supported). This is a first pass at the mobile app, but has quite a lot of functionality already. Read articles, look at our Facebook and YouTube pages, our twitter stream, and send articles to Facebook or Twitter right from your phone.
We're also working on an Iphone version of the app, which will probably be available some time before the end of the month. Let us know what you think!

Health Care Reform : The Chicago Way
Last year, I posted this clip off YouTube on my old blog, blueohioan. I put it up there just as Obama shifted gears from punching bag to ninja. I sense that moment in the health care debate is upon us. So tonight, as we prepare to watch the President take the reigns of health care reform, let's remember why he's here. It's because all of us rolled up the sleeves last fall and did it "The Chicago Way."
We can do it again.
Susan Boyle: A Divine Dream In The Midst Of Misery
Every now and again, inspiration pushes its way through the mundane and the miserable and into our everyday consciousness. The most recent instance of this all too rare occurrence comes in the unlikely embodiment of a 47 year Scottish charity worker and self-reported virgin...Susan Boyle.
On the latest episode of Britain's Got Talent, Boyle made her way to the stage, endured the cynicism of the audience and the judges, and then proceeded to bring the house to its feet with her spectacular rendition of the acclaimed Les Miserables tune, I Dreamed A Dream.
You can see Boyle's performance in the following YouTube video. As of this moment, the video has been viewed over eight million times...jumping by well over two million views just today. Her story was featured on tonight's national news and you can expect to see her in numerous other interviews and appearances.
