From the House Dems:

Members and staff of the Florida House of Representatives wore pink on Wednesday, October 19, at the suggestion of two breast cancer survivors who serve in the Florida Legislature and who sought to call attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

State Representatives Geraldine F. Thompson (D-Orlando) and Gwyndolen Clarke-Reed (D-Deerfield Beach) asked their colleagues to don pink outfits to celebrate the power of pink and strides being made against breast cancer.

Learn more about their battles with breast cancer and their story of hope in this following essay. Feel free to use any of their commentary for broadcast or publication. Also, please see the two attached photos, including one of Reps. Clarke-Reed (left side of the image) and Thompson (on the right). The other photograph shows a gathering of several House members and staff taken today outside the chambers of the Florida House of Representatives. The images were taken by Meredith Geddings, House photographer, Office of the Clerk.

From Lois Frankel:

Across the country Americans are coming together with a single message: It is time for Washington to get the economy working again for the 99%. And once again, Allen West and House Republicans don’t get it.

Allen West has wasted no opportunity criticizing those who protest against corporate irresponsibility and Washington’s inability to focus on what really matters. It’s time to fight back.

Click here to sign our petition and tell Allen West, John Boehner, and House Republicans that it is time they “got the message” and focused on getting people back to work.

To make sure they get the message, I’ll deliver your signature to them in Washington, DC — and I’ll bring the media.

Allen West and the tea party have it all wrong. Getting our country working again isn’t about cutting regulation, slashing programs, and giving away billions big oil companies.

GOP Gambling Money: Mike Hubbard Thinks Alabama Just Fell Off The Turnip Wagon

October 19, 2011 by Left in Alabama

Mike HubbardIs Republican House Speaker Mike Hubbard (R) a Simpleton or a Liar?

OK, wrong question.  Try this one: How stupid does Mike Hubbard (R) think Alabama is?

Answer: Pretty darned stupid.  In fact, Hubbard must think the whole state of Alabama just fell off the turnip wagon if he expects us to swallow his line of BS about Alabama Republicans not taking any contributions from gambling sources.

The Poarch Band of Creek Indians (they're the folks with the big gaming operations in Atmore, Wetumpka and Montgomery) gave the Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) $350,000 last year ($100,000 in July and $250,000 in October) and another $200,000 in early 2011.

The RSLC's Alabama PAC gave $850,000 to the Alabama Republican Party in 2010, $373,000 to the Republican "136 years PAC" and $50,000 to Mike Hubbard's own "Network PAC."
