A poll released yesterday by the Garin-Hart-Yang research group of Washington, D.C., and paid for by the pro-choice women's group Emily's List, shows that women voters have a more favorable opinion of Delaware Sen. Joe Biden than Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin by 23 points after being read a short bio. Click here for the full poll.
The poll also found that by a 59-20 margin, women voters feel McCain selected Palin out of "political considerations" rather than because she's ready to serve as VP. That margin is almost exactly inverted when asked about Obama-Biden. A 50%-29% margin, to be specific, think Obama picked Biden because of his qualifcations and experience.
56% of female voters say are less likely to vote for the McCain-Palin ticket when they learn that Gov. Palin opposes abortion even in cases of rape or incest, only 29% say that stance makes them more likley to vote for the ticket.
55% of female voters say that they are less likely to vote for the McCain-Palin ticket after they learn that as Governor of Alaska, Palin slashed funding for pre-kindergarten education and a successful dropout prevention program, only 19% of women voters say that stance makes them more likely to vote for the ticket.
Overall, depsite the historic inclusion of the first woman on a GOP presidental ticket, only 35% of women voters feel the ticket is in tune with women's issues. 53% of women voters surveyed feel that the Obama-Biden ticket is more in tune with women's issues.
Interviews for the poll were conducted Sunday August 31st and Monday Sept 1st. The poll has a margin of error of +/- 3.5 points.
