It's Not Just Houses Anymore...

September 15, 2008 by admin

On this day Lehman Brothers filed for the largest bankruptcy in history, with unsecured debts to far too many creditors worldwide. Senators Obama and Biden are out on the campaign trail explaining that there is something fundamentally wrong with McCain's belief that "the fundamentals of our economy are strong".

Now comes another explanation for McCain's disconnect from the economy. It's not just that he can't count his houses, it's that he doesn't know if he bought a car. From
Motor Trend:

Do you know how many Priuses you've bought? Reportedly, like houses, John McCain doesn't know either. According to a recent article by the Detroit Free Press, UAW President Ron Gettelfinger blasted the Republican presidential candidate yesterday in response to McCain's contradiction over who paid for his daughter's Toyota Prius. The controversy echoes the one surrounding a recent admission by McCain that he couldn't remember how many homes he owns.

Last year, McCain said in two different newspaper interviews that he had bought his daughter Meghan McCain a Toyota Prius. He was quoted in the New York Times as saying "I ought to know the name of it; I paid for it." However, in an interview with WXYZ-TV on Sunday, McCain reportedly contradicted his previous statements, telling reporters that "actually she bought it, I believe, herself."

McCain's Daughter's Prius

I don't care who paid for McCain's daughter's Prius. I don't care what McCain says about it, either. The lens of history's camera is pointed at us right now, during these crucial times. Americans cannot afford for this campaign to be about petty issues like who paid for McCain's daughter's car! (And besides, anyone with children knows the process of letting go is gradual, and it is not so abnormal for a parent to allow the lines of who-paid-for-what to be blurred during that transition.) McCain and the Republicans would like nothing more than for this campaign to be about petty, personal things. In fact, I believe the more personal the better, as far as they're concerned. After all, they can't win on the issues, so they'd much prefer to keep the voters focused on personality and triviata. Americans need to know want to know what Barack Obama says. About the big issues. Please don't get mired in the muck of triviata! Don't allow Republicans and Talking Heads even in your own campaign to define the parameters of this debate as being about CARS! Stay focused on the big picture! We can change things, yes we can! :-) KEEP FOCUSED ON THE BIG PICTURE! This election is not about cars!
