Obama Hits McCain on Education

September 9, 2008 by Jack and Jill P...

Obama’s Policy on Education (the following can be found at barackobama.com):

Zero to Five Plan: Obama’s comprehensive “Zero to Five” plan will provide critical support to young children and their parents. Unlike other early childhood education plans, Obama’s plan places key emphasis at early care and education for infants, which is essential for children to be ready to enter kindergarten. Obama will create Early Learning Challenge Grants to promote state “zero to five” efforts and help states move toward voluntary, universal pre-school.

Expand Early Head Start and Head Start: Obama will quadruple Early Head Start, increase Head Start funding and improve quality for both.

Affordable, High-Quality Child Care: Obama will also provide affordable and high-quality child care to ease the burden on working families.

Fact-Checking McSame's Speech

This was a strange speech, y'all ... it's not often that the Presidential nominee gets upstaged by his VP pick. But I think that happened tonight.

John "McSame" McCain claims that Obama believes he is the "anointed one" to save our country at our hour of need. Yet Senator Obama said last week that this campaign is not about him. It's about us. And pray tell, what did John McSame tell us tonight?

He told us that he's the better choice to be President because he was a prisoner of war. That being a prisoner of war made him love America more, which means he's the better man to be President than Barack Obama ever will be. I've never quite understood that logic, but I guess it's because I'm not a Republican.

McSame also LIED to us tonight. Not just once. Several times. I'll lay out some of the BIG ones for ya:

McSame told us that "I will keep taxes low and cut them where I can. My opponent will raise them."

REALITY: Obama Will Cut Taxes, McCain Will Raise Them

  • "The Tax Policy Center, a research group run by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, has done the most detailed analysis of the Obama and McCain tax plans, and it has published a series of fascinating tables.

For Working Moms, It’s About Choice . . .

September 3, 2008 by Jack and Jill P...

Take a look at this Today piece on Sarah Palin and “the working mom.”

Ok, first things first. . . why was I NOT surprised to see ZERO women of color in that piece??? Hey media . . . you want to learn about being a working mom? Make sure you get some sistas in your interview next time.

You could start with people like my mother. See, she worked three jobs (including one as a part-time domestic) all while cleaning our landlord’s apartment buildings just to get a good deal on the rent. As a little boy, I remember mom used to wake me up at 4:00 in the morning — she’d mop the hallways while I polished the banisters. She raised a son (myself) and daughter BY HERSELF. In fact, she did such a great job that both of her children now have two degrees (and counting) behind each of their names.
