Interviews and Opening Gavel

Earlier today, David and I interviewed State Rep. Ted Celeste, I am in the process of editing that tape to be able to post it on the blog (we were interrupted by a certain Progress Ohio director) meanwhile David is braving blaring tornado sirens to head back to the Pepsi Center to cover Michelle Obama's speech tonight.

The mood on the street in Denver, is unbelievably enthusiastic. Venues everywhere were packed. The "Big Tent" where David and I spent most of the pre-opening gavel part of the day was completely packed, not a single seat or spot at a table went unused. The Google part of the tent, with free smoothies and 10-minute massages was easily the best part of the tent. The upstairs "Digg Stage" was rather toasty, betraying the fact that the strutcture is indeed a tent and that makes for spotty air conditioning, however Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was up there on a panel about the environement, and more speakers are expected up there tomorrow. (including Sen. Sherrod Brown -- we'll be there for that)

Music with a message!

I had the honor and pleasure of attending “Green Sunday” at Red Rocks last night!  What an amazing event, kudos to the DNC Host Committee for putting on such a great program!  The line-up of musicians and speakers were fabulous!

Sitting in Red Rocks is inspiring in and of itself-coupled with inspiring speakers and musicians-out of this world!  If I lived anywhere but here last night, I would be packing up and heading to Denver!  A typically beautiful night in the front range, stars were illuminating the sky and our local government was poignant, funny and motivating!  Three cheers for Denver!!!

I have to say, I was taken aback by seeing and hearing Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in person!  What an experience and definitely a check in the box for things to do before I’m 40!  William McDonough gave an impressive speech on sustainability.  The overall sentiment of the “Greening of America” was one that I don’t mind hearing over and over again.  It is our future, there is no other alternative!

Sheryl Crow was down to earth, amazingly beautiful and sounded terrific, great opener to get the crowd pumped.  Sugarland rocked it with their bluegrass style and amazing vocal range, Dave Matthews Band killed it on the acoustics.  Just to watch them play the guitar like that, wow, incredible!

Sitting on a bench in 16th Street Mall

Well I decided I don’t need to sleep anymore until I get back home…just kidding…I think. Today Emily and I parked the rental car and took Denver’s RTD bus into the city. Much better choice with the traffic, lack of parking and crowds. We drove past the MSNBC stage where all the shows are broadcasted from here. I’d like to go by when Keith Obberman is recording his. Maybe Rachel Maddow can stop by before her new show starts in September. That would be a treat.

Our first stop was to visit the Green Frontier Festival and talk to some people about solar powered water purification systems, a solar house on display & other alternative energy booths. I talked Emily into interviewing while I shot some stuff for youtube about it. She’s studied all of it and knows what to ask. Look for them on my youtube page soon.

We were waiting for the Mall Shuttle and I saw two lone characters walking slowly up the sidewalk with a McCain sign. To each his own I guess. I know I would fight for his right to free speech but I wonder if he would fight for mine. Maybe there lies the difference. I will say over all, the people in Denver seem very friendly and helpful.
