As I pick up the pace of work again, coming into the midterms, I have to get some stories cleared off the desk in order to make room for some others, and that’s what we’re about today.
We’ll be talking about saving more than 300,000 of this country’s most important jobs, and paying for it in a way that is not only good policy, but is a real problem for Republicans who are yelling “no new taxes!” once again while pretending they care about actually paying for actual spending and actually want to cut actual unemployment.
We have a bit of work to do today, but we want to keep it somewhat short...so let’s get going.
So across my desk have come documents that report how many jobs will be saved by the House coming back into session to vote out H.R. 1586 and send it to the President for his signature.

Classy Republican family values Senator
mocks Rachel Maddow's appearance.Here's
the audio: Vitter is really enjoying himself.
He probably preferred the way
his hookers looked.
Update: Looks like Vitter
has even more problems.

First, a cheap plug for my blog Senate Guru.}
The always-resplendent Rachel Maddow lampoons Sinning Senator David Vitter's fear-mongering and misleading Louisiana voters on health care reform:
After watching Rachel's report on Vitter's dishonest scare tactics, wouldn't you like to see him lose his job? You can help bounce the Sinning Senator from the U.S. Senate with a contribution to his Democratic opponent, Congressman Charlie Melancon, via the Expand the Map! ActBlue page.
Here's Senator Dorgan's first campaign ad for this election cycle. I'm generally not really interested in campaign ads that much, but there is something important to note in this one. Dorgan is taking credit(and he should) for the fact that our state is one of only 6 or 8(I'm looking for that number) that are in the black at the moment. I know plenty of people that are of the mindset that the state surplus is the result of the sound financial management of one John Hoeven. All of us know that such an argument is pure bullpuckey as Rachel Maddow would put it. The reality is that we have a powerful(probably the most powerful) congressional delegation that brings home the pork in the form of(for example) geological surveys that wind up finding the Bakken oil formation, and end up generating a lot of sales tax revenue for the State as a result(especially after an oil price shock). It would seem that Dorgan is preparing himself for a possible campaign against Hoeven. He knows that if the governor decides to run that now would be the time to do it, but he isn't sure if he has the ability to go against Dorgan and win. I have said to many people in person for some time that Hoeven would never win, but it isfairly apparent to me that Senator Dorgan isn't taking his chances and is ready to cut Hoeven off at the pass.
