Two years ago, when 10,000 christian conservatives held a silent march through a “gay section” of Nashville, I picked up my camera and took to the streets as well.

If they (Christian Conservatives) were fighting for things like religious liberty I would be right there fighting with them…instead they are being manipulated, (with wedge issues) for their vote, by huge corporations that stand to profit the most. Follow the money…Corporate pay watch

During the Bush presidency the Republicans held the House, the Senate, the Whitehouse and the Supreme Court was a conservative majority and yet abortion was not overturned. Think about that…”they” (Big Corporations) don’t want it overturned because it is one of the issues that will get you (my conservative neighbors, family & friends) fired up and out to the polls…and the streets…like last weekend in Washington DC over healthcare.

A group of doctors from Portland, Oregon will be in Nashville Monday as part of a national tour in Support of a Single Payer health care system. The group is traveling to Washington, D.C., in their “Care-A-Van” with a simple but loud message: We need a single-payer health system in which the government covers everyone and the private insurance industry is cut out. The doctors will make stops in 26 cities to campaign around the issue, and they want to meet with Barack Obama in Washington to make their case for real reform.

vacation count down T-minus 5 days and counting…winter hat (check), gloves (check), heavy winter coat (check) light weight jacket (check) I think I have to pack for temps somewhere between 20 degrees and 70 degrees. Isn’t that everything in my closet?

Emily & I went to dinner tonight. A local restaurant kind of a “meat & 3” we sometimes frequent for their delicious home made pie. The waitress is also the pie maker. She came over to our table and said, “sorry I didn’t make any pies this week…I found out my husband has stage 4 colon cancer.” She walked over to the register and picked up a picture of her 3 little kids to show us. Emily looked at her and said “how did you even come in here to work?” “I have to” she said, “we don’t have any insurance.”

How many times does this story play out in towns and cities across this country? Hard working people make do and get by until one catastrophic illness wipes them out. We think it’s ok to pool our resources via taxes for government run fire departments to put out a blaze in our homes but if something is attacking our bodies…well, we’re on our own.
