Blue Red Rocks

Notes from Monocot:

I am somewhat late on posting this. My excuse is the heady mix of caffeine and constant motion from the past few days. Sorry Celtic :>

Team Blue Oasis members Monocot and Writing Raven attended the Host Committee's celebration “Green Sunday” at Red Rocks, Sunday evening. AP video information on the concert is here
Red Rocks is a large amphitheatre style stadium carved out of wait for it…large red rocks.

concert goers at Red Rocks

The show began with Mayor John Hickenlooper; who welcomed everyone to Denver. I’ve heard many mentions in blogs and news articles this week of his unusual last name. For those curious, it means "Hedge Hopper" in Dutch.

Green Sunday at Red Rocks

Green Sunday at Red Rocks was an event held by the Host Committee to bring awareness to Global Warming.

I posted about the first half of the show last night here.

After Sheryl Crow finished Van Jones and Senator Salazar spoke. We were also treated to a great speech on the environment from George (Will Ferrell) Bush.

Sugarland played a great set... and I don't normally like country music.

Before Dave Matthews came out with Tim Reynolds, William McDonough, Governor Ritter, Robert Kennedy Jr, and Governor Kaine spoke.

Kaine introduced fellow Virginian Dave Matthews who was absolutely amazing.

I might get used to this press pass thing!

Hello from Red Rocks

I'm here with my beautiful wife for the Host Committee's kickoff party for this historic week. We're watching an amazing show while a looming thunderstorm lights up downtown Denver.

Mayor Hickenlooper opened the show welcoming everyone to Denver. He was followed up by the show's creator Laurie David who introduced Sheryl Crow.

Crow opened the show with her song "God Bless This Mess" and played for about 30 minutes. She dedicated "Strong Enough" to Obama and Biden.

There's no better place to see a show than Red Rocks. Up next is Sugarland followed by Dave Matthews.

DNCC Media Party--first event of the Convention!

I've been trying to take it easy this weekend. Got up at 5:30 Alaska time this morning...blogged and went swimming. Then we geared up to hit the DNCC kick-off event which was the media party.

So it turned out that Writing Raven, Morrigan and I were the ones that got to venture to Elitch Gardens (formerly "Six Flags") for the big media event. I tried to get more "credentials" because Kim and Eric also blog on Blue Oasis, but they wouldn't do it. I literally begged for Morrigan's pass and the kind women took pity on me.

Of course, we were hoping to see some of our favorites (Oh, Keith...).
